Anime has been one of the major grounds of discussion for many people nowadays (irrespective of gender) and up till today, many still don’t know a fitting way to define what anime is exactly. Most people see anime as a cartoon for kids, while some see it as a show that portrays and easily expresses the actions and intent of human action and of course there are others who don’t really wanna know and just wanna get the next coming anime series and add it to their watch-list. So what is Anime exactly?
Anime vs Animation
The question of anime somehow gives rise to the question of what is animation, of course there is no way to define anime without first-off defining animation so I’m gonna do that and set the main difference between them hoping for you to better understand what anime is about.
Animation in simple terms refers to the process of creating motion and change by displaying a sequence of static images that minimally differ from each other rapidly whether by drawing with pencil or any other means of art. Anime is basically a Japanese style of animation, in fact anime is short for animation in Japanese, nothing more nothing less but because of that, there are a lot of things that makes it look different from your regular animation.
The main difference between anime and animation is that anime pays more attention to the design of setting and characters whereas animation pays more attention to motions and movements.
Visual effects are one of the greatest strengths of anime. This style pays a great deal of attention to the details of the art; the settings and characters are created painstakingly. Characters in Animes typically have large eyes with reflective highlights, and slender and long bodies most of the times. The creators also use a wide range of colors and shades to make the artwork more attractive. The details of the face, body, as well as their clothes, are realistic and more attractive than those found in other animations.
The content and the subject matter of animes are also different from other animations. Animes target different age groups; their target audience is not restricted to just children, this is one of the errors people make when talking about anime(it’s not exactly a cartoon for kids). Since it has an adult audience as well, anime can also deal with serious and complex subject matter. Mature content that may include sex, politics, lifestyle and violence can also be seen in animes.
Despite the time given to paying attention to areas such as character design, subject matter, etc., animes do not involve a lot of animations at all. There is less animation of movement in animes when compared to other animations, although you might find some anime these days behaving differently.
Why Is Anime So Addictive?
As peaceful looking and even gore animes can be sometimes, it’s just so irresistible and many tend to get addicted too it, some get addicted on their first anime while others might just develop that love and interest but still manage to not get addicted, however here is why it gets addictive:
Some people are addicted to anime because it’s fun, action-packed, comedic, and entertaining, it’s like a show that’s so good you can’t help but watch another episode, and the characters are cute and different. The way lives are portrayed in anime and in real-life is so similar looking with the added element of drama, style and sometimes the unbelievable things. Take this example a high-schooler in real life and in anime:
And for anime we got:
Here we can actually see the different expressiveness of each character, although they look really funny but it also shows their moods and sometimes it can be what we really need to have a nice day.
In the end, some people are addicted to anime because it’s so different and unlike the real world it can be whatever you choose like if you want ninjas and Jutsu or if you want volleyball or food or high school kids or demon slayers or death notes, anything you want anime has!
